Advertising | The 2nd Landesgrillmeisterschaft Sachsen-Anhalt is not only history, no, it also wrote history. Rock the Rabbit are a tragic part of this history, but one after the other! After we were already last year at the 1st Landesgrillmeisterschaften Saxony-Anhalt, experienced a roller coaster of emotions, and cleared the audience award, it was clear that we participate again this year. Not least because of the once again terrific organization of the championship by the GoGrillaz, and under the patronage of the German Barbeque Association, it was also this year an unforgettable event.

This is also helped by the fact that the state barbecue championship is held as part of the Colbitzer Heide and Bockbierfest, which helps to ensure that there is plenty of foot traffic at each team’s booth. This motivates and emphasizes that we are all celebrating a great barbecue together here!
However, everything starts with the set-up, i.e. for us everything starts at 5.30 a.m. at the competition site. Even though we still had a time buffer, it was already clear when we were clearing out and setting up that we were going to have a good run again. From a smoker weighing tons from Sens Outdoor Grills to a DJ station to a popcorn machine, everything was represented to make the party legendary again!

Can go off
After the set-up first a proper breakfast with beans and bread and lots of coffee, then it was time to prepare. The other 6 teams also started, but unfortunately there were not the intended 12 teams, because some had cancelled at short notice. Very unfortunate and certainly annoying for the organizers, who had again put something on the legs.
You don’t contest a championship like this from the cold. We had several trainings behind us and knew exactly who had to do which work step and when. This only works if, as with our team, there is a captain in Daniel who has everything under control logistically. The man of the lists, so to speak!

1st course: Burger with side dish
The Bumble Burger
We love burgers! Who doesn’t? We especially love our burger. A Beer Can Burger with scamorza, Guiness onions and cheddar lava. Then, as a side dish, avocado halves with bacon crumbles and tomato salsa. I have eaten this burger so many times by now, but I am thrilled every time! The minced meat of very good quality was part of the basket, so it was provided, and had to be used. Other components of the shopping cart, such as various vegetables and fruits, cheese, etc., did not constitute a mandatory component. Unfortunately, our burger was not enough for a place on the burger podium this time. Looking at the presentation, however, it becomes clear that we wanted to defend one title at all costs, namely the audience award!

2nd course: Pork Belly (pork belly) with garnish
Belly McFly
A quite tricky task such a pork belly. We were also provided with the pork belly as a mandatory component. Everything, except the preparation of Pork Belly Burnt Ends, was allowed. With pork belly, the key question is whether you can get a nice crust. Due to time constraints and this uncertainty factor, we had decided to go another way: pork belly slices Asia style! Side dishes include mashed sweet potatoes and bread salad! We worked up quite a sweat as not everything went smoothly with our pork belly. So it was a matter of thinking and improvising. We seem to be able to do that, because in the end we got 2nd place for our Pork Belly with side dishes. The improvisation method proved to be so ingenious in the end result that we will probably always prepare the pork belly this way in the future!

3rd course: Chef’s Choice with garnish
Hot Rod Ribs
Free choice! What do you do when you get to pick your own ingredients at a state barbecue championship? We did barbecue, and for us that means ribs! We also had terrific source material from Fitmeat for this. Overall, the teams presented a wide range of beef, veal and fish in this course. Super juicy and Asian glazed ribs were conjured up by us in the Bawosmok from Sens Outdoor Grills. As a side dish, panko-fried spring rolls with wakame salad. We are fully on it, but unfortunately it was not enough for a place on the podium.

4th course: dessert
Captain`s Sweethearts
The dessert! Last year we had presented a souffé from the grill at the National Grilling Championship, which unfortunately brought mixed opinions. This year, therefore, we wanted to know it in the dessert: Apple crumble, stuffed pancake and waffle with fruit mirror brought us an excellent 2nd place! That’s something to be proud of, isn’t it? From the waffle iron to the fire plate to the wok on the rocket stove from BBQ-Toro, the focus here was also on BBQ and outdoor cooking, because after all, that’s what it’s all about, right?

Overall ranking
I had spoken of a historic moment. Here it comes: After all points were counted, Rock the Rabbit was tied for first place with the Kleinen Weber Lions team. Not simply tied on points, but tied on points to 3 decimal places with 657.375 points. This had also never happened before at a competition of the German Barbeque Association. So the only thing that helped was a look at the rules, which in this case stated that the winner would be decided by drawing lots. Phew, not the prettiest way to crown a state barbecue champion! This should be brought up for discussion again! Well then, unfortunately we had no luck of the draw! Nonetheless, we are very happy and proud of our performance and what we have achieved: runner-up Saxony-Anhalt! The national grill champion“The small Weber Lions” also on this way again congratulations to the title win and the Schmandmännchen to the 3.place!

Audience Award
Do we have to talk about it?! I don’t know how many votes were cast for us, but it seems to have been quite a large margin, with which we were able to clearly win the audience award again this year. On that note, thank you to all of our families, friends, supporters and all of the guests at the State Barbecue Championship who gave us their vote.

This is also part of our ambition at Rock the Rabbit: to host a grandiose party, to provide delicious and unforgettable moments for us and everyone involved! We are very pleased that we have succeeded again this time! However, we couldn’t rock it at all in the form we do if we didn’t have terrific sponsors, to whom our very deepest thanks: Fitmeat, BBQ-Toro, Spicebar, Friedr. Dick knife, Fiensmecker, Kerrygold, Needle Gin, Sens Outdoor Grills, Oliobric, Sudenburger Brauhaus, Puszta Peppers and Wood Stork Rum.
Conclusion
There can only be one conclusion: We will be back for the National Barbecue Championship!
I would also like to thank the whole team! It’s wonderful to be a part of this great BBQ family! *hugsandkisses*
A dear greeting and thanks also to the other teams who made this event just as much what it was: a great BBQ party! Thanks for this to The Little Weber Lions, Schmandmännchen, Men on Fire, BBQ Schnitzer, Lion Brothers BB Q and Luthers Grillerben.
Grill on and see you next year!
