Advertising | Grill thermometers are something that you somehow can not have enough. So I feel that way, because with pellet smokers, gas grills, kettle grills, etc., one thing is never enough for larger barbecues. Fortunately, there is the company Inkbird and the Inkbird thermometers, which are suitable for a wide range of requirements and above all have one thing: a very good price-performance ratio!
One of them I would like to introduce to you today, since it is next to the IBBQ-4T* a perennial favorite at my barbecue and smoke sessions, namely the Inkbird thermometer IBT-4XC*. Yes, you can get confused with all the designations, but the most important features right away:
- Bluetooth connection
- Waterproof according to IPx5
- 4 Temperature sensor
- magnetic fixture
- Permanently installed battery with up to 60 hours runtime
- free app “BBQ Go
Scope of delivery
Let’s get to what you’re getting into. Firstly, the barbecue thermometer itself in a splash-proof case. So a rain shower doesn’t bother it, you can’t immerse it in water, but why should you!? The back of the Inkbird thermometer is magnetic, convenient for mounting. There are 4 inputs for the temperature sensors and a USB port for charging the permanently installed battery. The display lights up in red and shows you alternately the temperature of the connected temperature sensors.
The IBT-4XC also comes with four temperature sensors, three of which have a tip for your food, and one without a tip for monitoring the cooking chamber temperature. We then have two clips to attach the probe to the grill grate, a USB charging cable and just the packaging, which also serves as a storage box. But you can have that better by getting the matching carrying case* for your IBT-4XC.
Functions
I’ll say it right up front. The Inkbird Grill Thermometer IBT-4XC does exactly what it is supposed to do, and does it reliably. After certainly 5 longjobs with Pulled Pork, Brisket etc. I can fully confirm this. Ok, but let’s move on to the settings. You’ll need an app to do this, and it’s the free BBQ Go app. The connection between the app and the thermometer via Bluetooth is simple and flawless, and the range is also very good – compared to the usual limitations of Bluetooth. Of course, it makes sense to place your thermometer somewhat aligned to achieve a good range. If you hide it close to the ground behind the grill, then you shouldn’t expect any range miracles.
In the clearly designed app you can see your four temperature sensors. You can set an alarm for each when the target temperature is reached or an alarm for leaving a defined temperature range, e.g. from 100 – 120 degrees Celsius. There are predefined temperature ranges in the app for all kinds of meat. For example, you can set your cut of beef to be Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, Medium Well or Well Done. This is also available for fish, chicken, hot smoking, etc. And of course you can also create your own target temperatures or temperature ranges, name them and save them. The temperature curve can also be displayed graphically in the app. For example, you can see very well when your pulled pork had its plateau phase and the temperature was nailed down. You can also set a timer including a comment for the individual sensors, e.g. timer in 30 minutes, comment “turn steak”. Overall, a well thought out app that I haven’t missed anything so far.
In use
There is not much to describe since the functions described above do their job as stated. What you should pay attention to is that the temperature sensors of the IBT-4XC are plugged in firmly. There’s a little resistance at the end when you plug it in. As already mentioned above, the thermometer has proven itself to me in various applications. On the pellet smoker for pulled pork and brisket, on the Kamado Joe for cooking steaks, on the gas grill for bacon bomb and so on. The battery lasts a long time, the probes are easy to clean, everything is fine.
However, if any problems or questions do arise, you’ll find Inkbird staff on Facebook quick to respond and friendly to help you with the barbecue thermometer. Of course you can also leave your comment here or contact me via the contact form. And if you decide to buy this thermometer now, I would be happy if you use the following link for it. The price remains the same for you and I am rewarded a little: Inkbird IBT-4XC
The thermometer was kindly provided to me free of charge by Inkbird. Regardless, the post reflects my personal and honest opinion. I was not given any specifications by the company, and I would not accept these for any product test.
