TomYang BBQ with a difference – why it’s perfect for Mexican barbecuing with cheese sauce
For me, there is always something special about eating together at the table. It’s not just about getting full, but about preparing, tasting, sharing and experimenting together. That’s exactly why I love appliances like this Thai table grill, which can do more than just one function. The TomYang BBQ was originally designed as a Thai grill and hot pot – but the more you use it, the clearer it becomes: This appliance can be used for much more than just Asian cuisine. This time, the plan was not a classic Thai set-up, but a Mexican-inspired evening with cheese sauce, nachos, beef, chicken, beans and strong spices. And this is exactly where the TomYang BBQ shows why its design and functionality make it so incredibly versatile.
Thai table grill and hot pot in one – the heart of the concept
The TomYang BBQ combines two elements that are normally used separately: a central grilling surface and a surrounding channel that is suitable for cooking soups, sauces or other liquid components. This combination is not only practical, but also a real winner in terms of taste. Find out about the origins of the TomYang BBQ here: Moo Kata!
Meat, poultry or vegetables can be seared directly on the curved grilling surface. This produces roasting aromas, gravy and spice residues that are not lost but can be used in a targeted manner. It is precisely these juices that run from the grilling surface into the surrounding channel – and this is where the TomYang barbecue for Mexican food becomes particularly exciting.
Cheese sauce that learns as you grill
Instead of a classic broth or soup, in our case a creamy cheese sauce simmers in the channel. It forms the centerpiece of the evening, as it is not only a dip for nachos, but also a flavor bracket for the entire meal.
While strips of beef and chicken sizzle on the grill surface, gravy, spices and roasted aromas drip directly into the cheese sauce. The result is not a sterile, neutral sauce, but one that evolves with every grill pass. It becomes stronger, rounder and more complex – completely automatically, without any additional seasoning. The Thai table grill is therefore fully in its element.
This is a huge advantage, especially for Mexican dishes, which thrive on intense flavors. Chili, paprika, cumin or smoked spices combine with cheese and meat juices to create a sauce that goes perfectly with nachos, beans or pieces of meat. And so it was… the longer the evening, the better the cheese sauce that bubbled away in the hot pot. It was almost impossible to stop eating.
Meat directly at the table – hot, fresh and juicy
Another plus point is the direct preparation at the table. Beef and chicken are not cooked in advance and kept warm, but are freshly laid out, turned and eaten according to personal taste. Everyone decides for themselves how well the meat should be cooked, which spices are used and when it is transferred from the grill to the plate.
The grilling surface of the TomYang BBQ is ideal for thinly sliced meat, but also for marinated pieces or vegetables. The even heat quickly produces color without the meat drying out. At the same time, you are always part of the action – you are not sitting in the kitchen, but in the middle of the table.
Cook beans, corn and side dishes with ease
While the grill surface is busy, there is plenty of room for other ingredients on the table. Mexican beans, corn, jalapeños, nachos – whatever you fancy.
The great thing about it: everything happens at the same time, without any hectic rush. Nothing boils over, nothing burns and you don’t have to constantly switch between the stove and the table. The TomYang BBQ takes on the role of a central cooking area where all the elements come together.
Nachos, dipping, sharing – made for just that
It’s hard to imagine a Mexican evening without nachos. In combination with the Thai table grill, they are more than just a side dish. They are a tool, spoon and snack all in one. Pulled directly from the cheese sauce, topped with a little meat or beans, new combinations are constantly being created – spontaneously and without fixed rules.
This fits perfectly with the character of this appliance. It is not a classic fondue, not a pure grill and not a hot pot in the strictest sense. It is a tabletop appliance that invites experimentation and encourages conversation. Everyone helps themselves, tries, recommends, laughs – and that’s what makes the evening.
Versatility instead of pigeonholing
Even though the TomYang BBQ has its origins in Asian cuisine, it would be a shame to reduce it to that. Its design is so flexible that it easily supports other kitchen concepts. Whether Mexican with cheese and beans, Mediterranean with tomato sauce and vegetables or even as a breakfast option – the possibilities are amazingly diverse.
This is a huge advantage, especially for evenings with friends or family. You don’t need a large menu, complicated preparation or a large number of pots and pans. One appliance is enough to put a complete, varied meal on the table. Thanks to the Thai table grill and hot pot in one!

Conclusion: One device, many ideas
In this Mexican setup, the TomYang BBQ impressively demonstrates that it is far more than just a classic Thai grill. The combination of grilling surface and cooking channel makes it the perfect tool for creative food concepts – especially when dips, sauces and meat need to come together.
Cheese sauce that gains flavor when grilled, freshly roasted meat right at the table and side dishes that go with it in a relaxed way – all this makes for a meal that not only tastes good, but also connects. That’s why I don’t see this barbecue as an appliance for a single kitchen, but as an invitation to keep trying new things.
